Investing in Our Community

We're improving access to health care and improving the care being provided across the state via our investments in the community and medical research.

Improving Access to Care:

  • Emory Healthcare invested $69.6 million in teaching and research for the next generation of medical professionals in 2009.
  • Over $1.1 billion is contributed to Georgia's economy annually by Emory's research enterprise, resulting in over 28,500 new jobs created by Emory research funding.

Relieving the Community Health Care Burden:

  • In 2009, Emory helped relieve the government and community burden for health care via services aimed at improving access to care, such as a $2,018,251 contribution to emergency preparedness planning and educational programs. Emory also contributed $54,401,127 to cover the shortfall between Emory Healthcare's cost to provide care to Medicaid patients and Medicaid reimbursement (plus the cost for the GA provider tax).
  • Our physicians provide $48.9 million annually in charity care through Emory Healthcare and another $23.1 million in uncompensated care at Grady Memorial Hospital.
