Emory Radiology's Vascular Interventional Division offers state-of the-art diagnostic procedures and a full range of non-operative treatments for a wide variety of diseases. Vascular Interventional radiology is a non-operative method of treating patients using catheters or other small devices, guided by radiological images. Some interventional procedures have replaced traditional surgery.
A vascular interventional radiologist uses catheters to unblock arteries or drain obstructions. The placement of the catheters is guided by injecting contrast dye into the catheter, which visualizes the area that is being treated.
Emory interventional radiologists teach a training course in endovascular ablation of venous insufficiency. Physicians from all over the country attend training at our center. In May 2005, we became the 5th training center in the world for this procedure after Chicago, Miami, Morristown (NJ) and Portland (OR).
