Martha Smith, MD, FACC serves the Middle Georgia community at the Emory Heart & Vascular Center, centrally located in the heart of Dublin, Georgia.
We are open Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and offer a full range of services including diagnosis and treatment for cardiovascular disorders and diseases.
As a cardiologist, Dr. Martha Smith can treat you for a variety of conditions of the heart:
- Arrhythmias – Dr. Smith can determine the cause of arrhythmia or a heart rhythm disorder (a fast or irregular heart beat), also known as heart palpitations. There are many ways to treat arrhythmia, from lifestyle changes to cardiac arrhythmia surgery.
- Chest pain (angina) – Dr. Smith often treats chest pain resulting from an inadequate supply of oxygen to the heart muscle. Chest pain can be a symptom of many different problems, one of which is blocked arteries. This occurs when blood vessels are narrowed or blocked by fatty deposits. Chest pain is also a symptom of heart valve problems. Another more serious condition that causes chest pain is congestive heart failure. This is when someone’s heart doesn’t pump as well as it should. Dr. Smith can determine what is causing your chest pain. As a cardiac specialist, she uses the most current techniques such as advanced cardiovascular imaging to determine if you have one of the many possible heart conditions.
- Blocked arteries – Treatment has advanced radically over the years for blocked arteries. The Emory Heart & Vascular Center offers the latest techniques in angioplasty (also referred to as heart catheterization) and angioplasty stent replacement. These innovative procedures use a catheter and small balloon to open blocked or narrowed coronary arteries. A stent is a hollow tube that can be inserted to remove a blockage.
- Heart Valve Surgery – The Emory Heart & Vascular Center also offers heart valve surgery. This innovative procedure replaces the old open heart surgery. Now a catheter is used to attach a tiny clip to a leaking heart valve.
No matter your heart condition, you can feel confident that Dr. Martha Smith and the Emory Heart & Vascular Center can help you with anything from heart disease prevention to heart failure treatments.
