About Dr. Bruce

Beau Bruce, MD, MS, joined Emory in 2008 as an assistant professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine.  He serves as a physician/specialist in neuro-ophthalmology at Emory Eye Center.

Dr. Bruce's main research interests include the epidemiology of idiopathic intracranial hypertension and the application of non-mydriatic photography and telemedicine to the diagnosis of neuro-ophthalmic disease, particularly in non-ophthalmic settings.

In 2011 and 2012, results of his study with Emory colleagues titled “Nonmydriatic Ocular Fundus Photography in the Emergency Department” were published in the New EnglandJournal of Medicine, Academic Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Archives of Ophthalmology. These papers showed that non-mydriatic (no dilation required) digital fundus photography cameras in the emergency department are helpful in triaging patients who come in headache, neurologic disorders, severely elevated blood pressure, or visual disturbances.
