Skin Test Instructions

  1. Please wear a short-sleeve or sleeveless shirt as most testing is done on the arms. The testing will take about 60 - 90 minutes
  2. Certain medications prevent your skin from reacting as expected. Please refer to the contraindications list for certain medications and the time frames prior to testing that they need to be held/discontinued. It is your responsibility to confirm that any medications you take, whether prescription or over-the-counter (including vitamins and supplements), will not affect your testing. If you are unsure, please contact the allergy nurse with the medication name and all ingredients (with over-the-counter products it's best to have the box handy). We cannot be responsible for appointments that have to be rescheduled if inappropriate medications have been taken. If you do not see your medication on the contraindications list - please call our clinic at least one week before your testing to confirm that your medication may be continued. If is not possible to list all medications that may affect testing.
    1. Medications you may take include plain decongestants (like Sudafed), Tylenol, inhalers, antibiotics, hormones, birth control pills, "water pills," and most blood pressure pills.
    2. Please do not bring extra people with you since space in the testing room and waiting room is limited.
    3. Please do not wear perfume or after-shave lotion on the day of testing.
    4. If you use an albuterol inhaler, please bring it with you.
    5. You should continue your nasal spray, except ASTELIN or PATANASE. Singulair and nasal steroids (Flonase, Nasonex, Nasocort, Rhinocort and Veramyst) do not need to be discontinued.
    6. If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will need to reschedule the appointment.

Please be considerate of others who are waiting for allergy testing. Notify us at least 24 hours in advance by calling 404-686-1850 if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
