Heart Transplant Education

Pre-Transplant

Our heart transplant team is a multidisciplinary group of professionals working together to thoroughly educate every candidate about transplantation. We will teach you about the pre-transplantation phase, the surgery and recovery phase, and the routine follow-up care and medications required after transplantation. It is important that you and your family completely understand the benefits, risks, and limitations of transplantation in order to make an informed decision concerning this procedure.

Post-Transplant

Following surgery, the transplant team will provide you with all the information needed to care for yourself after transplant. You and your support person will learn about your post-transplant medications, daily monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and weight, symptoms of rejection and infection, when to notify the transplant team, and exercise and dietary recommendations. You will also receive a schedule of your follow-up appointments for the first month following your transplant surgery.
