The Emory Lung Transplant Center offers treatment for lung disorders

lung transplantEmory is dedicated to researching lung disorders and continues to find effective treatment and care for our lung transplant program patients. When you come in for an evaluation, we will teach you about pre-transplantation, surgery, and recovery, as well as routine care and medications that you will be required to take.

The McKelvey Lung Transplantation Center specializes in the treatment of complex lung disorders, especially pulmonary vascular and interstitial lung diseases, as well as advanced care for patients with pulmonary hypertension. It is the only lung transplant program in the state of Georgia and receives referrals from many states in the Southeast region.

Our Experienced Team Will Help You Understand Lung Disorders and Treatments

As of January 31, 2008, over 220 adult and pediatric lung transplants have been performed. Emory’s lung transplant program has an experienced multi-disciplinary team highly skilled in the care of lung transplant candidates and recipients. This team includes the Center’s pulmonologists, a transplant surgeon, transplant coordinators, a social worker, a cardiologist, a mental health specialist, a clinical nutritionist, a financial coordinator, and others who work together to help treat lung disorders. Each member of this team offers a specialized service in the care of our transplant patients.

After the lung transplant surgery, the transplant team will help you understand all the information necessary to care for yourself or loved one. They will instruct you on necessary medicine, monitoring vital signs, spotting symptoms of rejection and infection, and diet and exercise.
