Emory Healthcare and Atlanta Braves Celebrate ALS Awareness Day

The Atlanta Braves and Emory Healthcare, the official team healthcare provider of the Braves, have partnered this year for ALS Awareness Day on Saturday, June 2, 2024, when the Braves take on the Oakland A’s at 1:35 p.m. at Truist Park.

It’s a day when we celebrate the pursuit of a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), honor those living with the disease, and remember those whose lives have been lost to ALS.

ALS Care in Your Neighborhood

The Emory ALS Center of Emory Healthcare provides integrated care for patients and families with ALS and related disorders.

The center works closely with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the ALS Association of Georgia in a collaboration that allows Emory ALS Center to provide better care for people and families dealing with ALS, and maintain the highest independence and quality of life as possible.

Diagnosing ALS

It can be difficult to diagnose ALS in its early stages because the disease commonly resembles several other neurological diseases. Since it is a rare disease, it is likely that your physician will refer you to a specialized center like Emory ALS Center. Neurologists at the center are experienced in the diagnosis and care of ALS patients, and can work with you to rule out other conditions. After diagnosis, the team can provide you with specialized care.

ALS Treatment and Research

Because there is no known cure for ALS, the course of the disease cannot be reversed. Treatment mainly involves efforts to slow symptoms and progression. The Emory ALS Center’s goal is to provide patients with more comfort and independence.

Research is an important part of our work to diagnose, treat and find a cure ALS. The center participates in clinical trials to better understand the disease and other associated conditions.
