Radiology Diagnostic
Breast Needle Localization
Needle localization is performed prior to breast surgery; needle localization is necessary when the surgeon is unable to feel the breast abnormality. A small needle is placed into the area of abnormality. After the radiologist is certain that the needle is in the correct position, a wire is placed through the needle. Mammographic images are then obtained and sent to the operating room with the patient.
