What is a Brain Tumor?

Brain tumors affect people of all ages, ethnicities and genders. A tumor is a mass of abnormal cells. Tumors may be cancerous or noncancerous and can occur within the brain or along the spinal cord. 

Primary brain tumors start in the brain. Metastatic tumors begin elsewhere in the body and spread to the brain or spine. Many types of tumors can affect the brain and spine, including:
