What a Hospitalist Does
Emory Healthcare's Hospital Medicine service is the nation's most extensive academic hospital medicine program. During your stay at one of our hospitals, you can expect our board-certified hospitalist team to:
- Provide the highest-quality care
- Examine or evaluate you once a day or more
- Consult with several doctors on our hospitalist team
- Stay in communication with your nurses and other hospital staff
- Review your test results
- Meet with your family to make sure they have the best information about you
- Share information and work closely with your primary care doctor
- Be in the hospital 24 hours a day to respond to you and your family's needs
Along with the primary duty of overseeing your care during your hospital stay, our hospitalists also help educate future health care professionals and perform research that leads to better hospital care.

How Does a Hospitalist Benefit Referring Physicians?
Emory Healthcare Hospitalists receive admissions from the emergency room, outpatient clinics and hospitals across the Southeastern United States. This allows patients without a primary care physician to be cared for quickly and reliably should they need to be admitted.
It also allows primary care physicians and specialists to focus on their outpatient practices, improving their quality of life and increasing their satisfaction. Our Hospitalists will use the consultants you request. Together, Hospitalists and outpatient physicians are able to deliver high-quality care avoid delays and inconveniences to patients.
