Are You New to Medicare or Considering Your Medicare Options Next Year?

Date: Nov 10, 2023

Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is October 15 through December 7. We know during this time lots of information about Medicare insurance may be overwhelming coming at you all at once. Emory Healthcare isn’t an insurance company, but we’ve partnered with MedicareCompareUSA*, a licensed insurance agency, to support our patients, their families and caregivers in understanding the different Medicare options.

In addition to providing a Medicare Insurance Helpline, MedicareCompareUSA also offers expanded online services by visiting MedicareOnDemand.com/Emory. You can reach the helpline Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1-855-256-1501; TTY 711.

Who Needs To Enroll in Medicare?

When considering a plan, remember that no single Medicare plan is suitable for everyone. MedicareCompareUSA’s goal is to simplify the process of comparing and enrolling in Medicare insurance. Additionally, it’s important to know that married couples will not be automatically enrolled together. Each person must make their own Medicare plan enrollment decision based on their unique needs. It’s not uncommon for spouses to have Medicare insurance with different companies.

MedicareCompareUSA provides the tools to guide you with a solid understanding of what Medicare is and how it can help you or a loved one. Its MedicareOnDemand*resource provides the following, all at no cost or obligation to you:

  • Online Medicare plan quote and enrollment
  • Immediate access to speak with a licensed insurance agent
  • The ability to schedule your own appointment with a local insurance agent
  • Information on attending a Medicare 101 seminar
  • Access to a robust Medicare Education Center

What Are the Different Parts of Medicare?

There are four basic parts of Medicare:

  • Part A – Covers inpatient and hospital care.
  • Part B – Covers outpatient, doctor services, and other non-hospital care.
  • Part C – The section of Medicare that allows private insurers to offer “Medicare Advantage” plans, which must cover everything Original Medicare (Part A + Part B) covers, and may include additional benefits.
  • Part D – Prescription drug coverage. Private insurers offer additional prescription drug coverage for additional monthly premiums.

For expanded answers and information on these questions, as well as answers to many more, visit MedicareOnDemand’s Medicare Education Center FAQs page.
