Treatments for Brain Health Conditions
Awake Craniotomy — During this procedure, surgeons go through the skull in order to perform language mapping to preserve language while removing a tumor.
Botulinum Toxin Injection — This treatment program helps with dystonia, hemifacial spasm, spasticity and other conditions.
Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) — This therapy works by electrically stimulating the brain and improving the release of neurochemicals known to be important in the treatment of depression.
Cerebral Aneurysm Surgery — Traditional and minimally invasive endovascular coiling procedures are offered to help induce clotting to treat an aneurysm.
Deep Brain Stimulation — This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that involves using small electric pulses to change activity in brain areas involved in movement disorders, epilepsy, and other neuropsychiatric disorders.
Medication — We offer medical management and pain management for traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy and other brain health conditions.
Neuroendoscopy — This type of neurosurgery allows for the safe treatment of deep-seated tumors in the brain and skull base.
Neurostimulation — Neurostimulation, including vagus nerve stimulation and NeuroPace/responsive neurostimulation, are used to treat seizures caused by epilepsy.
Physical Therapy — Inpatient and outpatient physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy is available for patients with brain health conditions.
Psychotherapy — Patients experiencing depression, anxiety, and other related disorders may benefit from psychotherapy. Emory offers group, individual and couples psychotherapy.
Pituitary Surgery — Options include 3-D endoscopic surgery, transsphenoidal (through the sinus cavity), craniotomy (through the skull) and radiosurgery.
Radiation Oncology — Our specialties include stereotactic radiosurgery and IMRT to provide targeted radiation therapy for brain tumors.
Spinal Radiosurgery — This type of surgery helps treat brain tumors and metastatic tumors of the spine resulting from various types of cancer.
Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) — This minimally invasive procedure helps patients with seizures caused by epilepsy without using traditional open brain procedure.
Stereotactic Neurosurgery — This minimally invasive surgery uses 3D imaging to locate and treat small targets inside the body.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) — This noninvasive procedure helps treat depression by using magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain.
