Dilation and Stenting
We can place hollow tubes called stents in your airway to treat a variety of breathing and lung disorders. Stents provide support for your airway, allowing you to breathe and swallow more easily. Dilation stretches your airway, increasing its size and improving your ability to breathe. A stent may be used in combination with dilation to provide additional stability. Our expert surgeons can perform these procedures endoscopically, which means they don’t require surgeons to make an access incision outside your body.
Options we offer for dilation and stenting include:
- Airway stent
- Balloon dilation
- Bronchoscopy
-
Bronchial dilation
- Endoscopic excision and dilation
- Endo-laryngeal stenting
- Endoscopic placement of a tracheal stent
-
Partial arytenoidectomy
- Slide tracheoplasty
- Tracheoplasty
- T-tube stent
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy uses a targeted, intense beam of light to destroy tissue. Our team of specialists uses laser therapy for ablation (removal) of tumors and scar tissue in your airway. This procedure helps widen your airway and improves your ability to breathe and swallow.
Options we offer for laser therapy include:
- Suspension microlaryngoscopy
- Bronchoscopic therapies
- Laser cordotomy
Advanced Surgical Options
We were the first and remain the only hospital in the state to offer robotic tracheobronchoplasty to repair and strengthen the trachea for patients with tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). With TBM, your airway collapses, leading to difficulty breathing, coughing and infection. Robotic-assisted surgery improves your surgeon’s ability to reconstruct your airway using precisely attached mesh sutures (stitches) with less pain and fewer complications.
Other options for surgical reconstruction and revision include:
- Bronchial or tracheal resection and reconstruction
- Carinal resection and reconstruction
- Cricotracheal resection
- Endoscopic resection
- Laryngeal microsurgery
- Laryngotracheal reconstruction
- Open airway surgery of the larynx
- Slide tracheoplasty
- Supraglottoplasty
-
Tracheal fistula repair
- Tracheal resection
- Vocal cord lateralization
- Vocal cord medialization
- Vocal cord reinnervation
Tracheostomy-Related Care
If you require a tracheostomy to provide an alternative airway opening, our team teaches you everything you need to know to use and care for your breathing tube. We also offer surgical solutions when needed.
Options include:
- Revision of tracheal stoma
- Tracheostomy maintenance
