Our voices change throughout our lives. Sometimes those changes are normal, such as during puberty or older age. Sometimes the changes are due to medical concerns such as papilloma, nodules, or movement disorders. Still, others are the result of inefficient behavioral patterns in how we use our voices.
Voice Disorders Across the Lifespan
How do voice disorders occur across the lifespan?
When should I seek help?
Even though some vocal changes are normal during certain periods of our lives, sometimes they can be uncomfortable or make it difficult to communicate easily. It’s time to seek help when that happens. Sometimes vocal problems can get worse over time, so it’s always a good idea to have it checked out sooner rather than later.
What treatment options are available?
Most voice disorders are treated through the combined efforts of laryngologists (doctors who specialize in treating the larynx, or voice box) and speech-language pathologists.
