"My greatest desire is to make my patients' lives better- and sometimes to give them their lives back."
Dr. Anita Sethna is a specialist in rhinoplasty, head, neck, and facial surgery and is known for her meticulous results. Whether creating a beautiful yet functional nose for a healthy patient or restoring normalcy of appearance for a paralysis or cancer patient, Dr. Sethna focuses on maintaining a natural look while maximizing the aesthetic result for all her patients. "I'm invested in every outcome," she says, "the key is to balance function with aesthetics. Outcomes need to leave the patient both beautiful and comfortable."
"Every surgery is a problem to be solved."
Dr. Sethna was a problem solver from early childhood. She loves a challenge and as she says, always had a tendency to pay attention to the smallest details. And that has not changed. She achieves her patient's vision for his or her best outward self by combining her passion for artistry with her desire for technical perfection. "My job," she says, "is to be a stable force for my patients. I want them to feel confident in me and that everything I do is evidence-based, not an untried approach." Training in complex reconstruction informs her aesthetic work and makes her a truly excellent plastic surgeon.
"Training tomorrow's surgeons is an honor and responsibility I take very seriously."
She is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine where she has taught since 2011. She has been the Associate Program Director for the Otolaryngology Residency program since 2016. Dr. Sethna brings an extensive and impressive background to her work as well as to her residents. She says that in academics, she is always aware of new technologies and ways to do things better. She is the recipient of the AOA Research Award, and an accomplished expert in her primary areas of interest, rhinoplasty and injectables.
"Although my first love is surgery and being a professor, I also enjoy writing and speaking."
She has published book chapters on the topics of rhinology and rhytidectomy, and reviewed manuscripts for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery. She has presented at national conferences, including the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology. In addition to Emory, Dr. Sethna is affiliated with Grady Memorial Hospital, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, and the Atlanta Veterans Aff airs Medical Center.
On a personal note
Dr. Sethna has two young children who are the light of her life and bring meaning to her commitments to teaching and surgery. A wonderful memory of hers is when she ran the Olympic torch as part of the torch relay in the 1996 Olympics.
