Robotic Pelvic Floor Surgery

Your Partner in Robotic Pelvic Floor Surgery

Your pelvic floor is the group of muscles that support the organs in your pelvis. These organs include the bladder, rectum and the uterus in females. Pelvic floor muscles are important for bladder and bowel control.

Weak pelvic floor muscles can cause you to leak urine when you don’t want to (incontinence). If medication doesn’t relieve your incontinence symptoms, you may need surgery.

At Emory Urology, we perform robotic pelvic floor surgeries. These procedures use innovative technologies to strengthen parts of your pelvic floor.

We’re here as your health care partner. Our goal is to help you get back to the activities you enjoy most.

Robotic Pelvic Floor Surgery

Our urologists use daVinci robots to complete surgeries and relieve symptoms of incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. These robots perform laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery through small incisions.

During laparoscopic/robotic surgery, our urologists make small cuts called incisions in your side. Each cut is 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch wide. Special cameras and video give them a clear view inside your body. They use small tools to complete the procedure. Traditional open surgery requires a large 8-inch to 10-inch incision.

Robotic Surgery for Female Pelvic Medicine

Robotic reconstructive surgery can benefit female patients with pelvic floor disorders. Our experienced surgeons can suspend the sagging pelvic organs and restore normal anatomy. Additionally, robotic surgery allows well-established surgical procedures to be done in a minimally invasive fashion.

We also work closely with Emory Healthcare Gynecology and Obstetrics. These doctors offer comprehensive evaluation, management and treatments for urinary and pelvic floor disorders.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

These minimally invasive procedures offer several benefits, including:

  • Less pain
  • Less pain medication
  • Quicker recovery
  • Smaller incision.
